CREATE. COLLABORATE. INNOVATE.
May 7, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment is proud to serve as a partner for Innovate Huntsville 2016.
CREATE. COLLABORATE. INNOVATE. will include four interactive programs that examine the way people view and interact with art.
Our event promotes the interaction and practice of both visual and performance arts. It encourages individuals to embrace art, their creativity, and their understanding of art by ignoring the idea of how it “should” be viewed, and embracing it on their own without direct influence from another’s thoughts or direction. By providing people with the opportunity to engage with art, we are inviting everyone to test their comforts and ideas.
Events of the day include:
“Every Image Tells a Story” – take part in a community storyboard, all inspired by a single work of art. We will mailout postcards at random. Bring them back or mail them to Lowe Mill. On the day of the event, we’ll create a story based off each interpretation.
“Paint By Number Mural” – leave your mark on the Mill by painting a mural on our North Building stairwell. We’ll provide the mural, you paint the numbers.
“Musical Canvas” – each color represents a note, each note represents a color. As you throw down paint on a giant canvas, the ensemble will play your note. Together you can create a musical work of art. Huntsville Symphony Orchestra has graciously agreed to partner with Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment as the performing ensemble for the “Musical Canvas” event. Participants will have the opportunity to conduct a string quartet by painting a giant canvas. Event is scheduled to take place from 1:30-3PM on May 7, located in our First Floor Connector.
“Point of View” Throughout the day, we’ll Tweet out questions and ideas that encourage individuals to journey Lowe Mill, interact with our artists and makers, and explore our space. Each “question” prompts a photo response that participants will Tweet back to Lowe Mill using the hashtag #innovatelowemill. If you aren’t following Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment on Twitter, make sure you do so before May 7 in order to participate in this interactive activity! Twitter: @lowemillarts
